History

The Children's Museum of Houston was founded in 1992 by a group of parents and educators who wanted to create a place where children could learn through play. The museum opened its doors to the public on November 8, 1992, with 5,000 square feet of exhibit space.

In 1995, the museum moved to its current location in Houston's Hermann Park. The new building was designed by award-winning architect Robert Venturi and his firm, Venturi, Scott Brown and Associates. The museum added 10,000 square feet of exhibit space, making it one of the largest children's museums in the United States.
