Downtown Aquarium

The Downtown Aquarium is a wonderful place to visit if you're looking for a unique activity to do in Houston. It's home to a wide variety of aquatic creatures, as well as several restaurants and amusements.


History

Downtown Aquarium originally founded in 1997 by Timed Inc. It was acquired by Landry's Restaurants, Inc. in 2001.


Exhibits

  • The Gulf of Mexico: This exhibit is a large tank that takes up an entire room. It has a variety of fish and other creatures from the Gulf of Mexico.
  • The Rain Forest: This exhibit is home to a number of exotic animals including sloths, piranhas, and anacondas.
  • The Touch Pool: This pool is home to starfish and sea urchins. You can reach in and touch them!
  • The Shark Tank: This tank is home to several sharks, as well as other fish.


Restaurants

There are several restaurants at the Downtown Aquarium, including Aquarius Bar & Grill, The Reef, and Starbucks.


Amusements

In addition to the exhibits, the Downtown Aquarium also has a number of amusements, including a carousel, train, and Ferris wheel.


Admission Fees and Working Hours

The Downtown Aquarium is open from 10am to 6pm Sunday through Thursday, and from 10am to 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Admission fees are $18.99 for adults, $13.99 for children aged 3-11, and free for children aged 2 and under.
