Houston Museum of Natural Science

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is a large museum located in Houston, Texas. The museum has many different exhibits, including a butterfly garden, a hall of gems and minerals, an IMAX theater, and much more.


History

The Houston Museum of Natural Science was founded in 1909 by the Houston Museum Association. The museum's original building, which still stands today, was opened to the public in 1924. In 1976, the museum moved to its current location, a large complex that includes four buildings and an IMAX theater.


Exhibits

The Houston Museum of Natural Science has many different exhibits, including a butterfly garden, a hall of gems and minerals, an IMAX theater, and much more. Some of the museum's most popular exhibits include:


  • The Morian Hall of Paleontology, which houses one of the largest collections of dinosaurs bones and fossils in the world.
  • The Cockrell Butterfly Center, which features a beautiful butterfly garden with over 1,500 butterflies.
  • The Hall of Gems and Minerals, which has more than 250 exhibits including diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and other gems.
  • The Wortham IMAX Theater, which shows stunning HD films on a giant screen.


Admission Fees and Working Hours

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is open from Monday to Saturday from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and on Sundays from noon to 5:00pm. Admission fees are as follows:


  • adults (ages 13-64) - $22
  • children (ages 3-12) - $15
  • seniors (ages 65+) - $18
  • members - free
