Houston Zoo

Houston Zoo is a zoo located in Houston, Texas. It is one of the largest zoos in the United States. The zoo houses over 6,000 animals from around the world and receives more than 2 million visitors each year.


History

Houston Zoo was founded in 1922 by the Houston Zoological Society. The zoo originally occupied a small piece of land near downtown Houston. In 1940, the zoo moved to its current location in Hermann Park. The Houston Zoo has been through many changes over the years. In the 1990s, the zoo underwent a $55 million renovation that doubled its size. In 2007, the zoo opened a new exhibit called African Forest.


Today, the Houston Zoo is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Houston. It is home to many rare and endangered animals, including gorillas, tigers, and lions.


Admission Fees and Working Hours

Houston Zoo is open every day of the week from 9:00am to 5:00pm. Admission fees vary depending on age. Adults aged 18-64 pay $22, seniors aged 65 and older pay $20, children aged 3-11 pay $15, and infants aged 2 and younger are free.
