The Galleria

History

The Galleria was built in 1970 by developer Gerald Hines. At the time, it was the largest shopping center in the world. It was designed by Italian architect Aldo Rossi and American architect Philip Johnson. The Galleria was originally called Houston's Town Center, but it was later renamed The Galleria after the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a famous shopping mall in Milan, Italy.
